RLD in The Sound Of Confusion
The Sound of Confusion wrote about Red Light District.
http://thesoundofconfusionblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/red-light-district-come-on-up.html
The music made by Los Angeles duo Red Light District (there are several other members in their live set up) might be less smutty than their name would suggest, but only just. "Any time you've got nothing to do, and lots of time to do it, come on up." Singer Juliette Angeli doesn't sound as though she has a discussion about the latest findings from CERN in mind. 'Come On Up' is the first single to be taken from the pair's debut album 'Smoke & Mirrors', an album that promises more of the same of what they describe as "one foot in the future and one in a dark smoky jazz-age carabret." And there's certainly a whole lot of theatre packed into this song.
Crunchy electronic beats are met with jazzy guitar, a swing rhythm and flourishes of brass. This inevitably brings an element of novelty to the proceedings but then this isn't supposed to be serious music. The lyrics have a certain mischievousness to them ("when I'm good I'm really good, but when I'm bad I'm better...") and the fusion of jazz, electronica and swing isn't the chin-stroking trip hop variety, it's the fun (for grown-ups) only variety. This track would feel right at home on a movie soundtrack and it's no surprise that Juliette herself is an actress as this is essentially a show tune, and now the stage is set for an album that you're either going to love or hate.

Smoke
This week's song from the forthcoming album is Smoke. For a short time, you can download this for free. Enjoy!
Recorded the 2nd of February, 2008, this is one of the few songs where you hear Shok sing.
The instruments are NOT samples, we perform the sounds you hear, just ask Shok's neighbors about these trumpets!
